Credits for the polling place on the way in
The first time each visit that you head into On The Ballot, you walk for ten seconds into a polling place in a school gym at dusk and feed a ballot into the scanner. The room is not a real place: it is drawn for this site, with no people in it. The ballot is generic, with no names, no parties and no real contests, and the scanner and its box carry no maker’s name. The wood, the paint, the cloth, a chair and a clock are free materials and models, listed here. Any key, click or tap skips it, and with Motion off it is one still picture.
The gym floor's maple strips: Wood Floor 047, ambientCG (Lennart Demes).CC0 1.0. Changed here: the colour and normal maps re-saved at 1,024 pixels and the roughness map at 512 in grey; the scene lays the strips lengthwise at 2.4 by 0.98 metres, tints them to a finished maple's amber, and paints the court's lines and its green stain over them; for the place the colour and normal maps are kept at 2,048 and the roughness map at 1,024.
The paint on the block walls: Painted Plaster 017, ambientCG (Lennart Demes).CC0 1.0. Changed here: the colour and normal maps re-saved at 512 pixels; the scene draws the concrete blocks themselves (400 by 200 mm, in running bond, with tooled joints) and takes from this only the paint's texture and its slight unevenness; for the place the colour and normal maps are kept at 1,024.
The weave of the flags' cloth, and the ballot paper's tooth: Fabric 036, ambientCG (Lennart Demes).CC0 1.0. Changed here: the normal map alone, re-saved at 512 pixels.
The chairs at the check-in table and beside the scanner: School Chair 01, Ethan Place (Poly Haven).CC0 1.0. Changed here: packed into one binary glTF file with its textures at 512 pixels; the seat shell's navy recoloured a charcoal grey.
The clock on the gym wall: Wall Clock, PierreB3D (Poly Haven).CC0 1.0. Changed here: packed into one binary glTF file with its textures at 512 pixels; its glass made a plain clear pane (its own glass texture is no longer used); the maker's name printed on its face painted out (in its colour, normal and roughness maps), so the face shows only its numerals and marks; the scene sets the hands to 5:24 and puts a wire guard over it, as gym clocks have.
The sky outside the windows (the place only): Qwantani Dusk 2 (pure sky), Greg Zaal, photography; Jarod Guest, processing (Poly Haven).CC0 1.0. Changed here: the 2K HDR tonemapped here at a low exposure with a filmic curve and saved at 2,048 by 1,024 and 1,024 by 512; the scene turns it so its sun stands where the room's sun does and darkens it through the blue hour.
The bin by the far doors (the place only): Metal Trash Can, GurJas Studios (Poly Haven).CC0 1.0. Changed here: packed into one binary glTF file with its textures at 1,024 pixels; the rusted variant's parts left out.
The clipboard on the check-in table (the place only): Clipboard, ProgrammerOnCoffee (Poly Haven).CC0 1.0. Changed here: packed into one binary glTF file with its textures at 1,024 pixels; the maker's mark on its board painted out.
The poll books on the check-in table (the place only): Binder Notebook, DaDrood (Poly Haven).CC0 1.0. Changed here: packed into one binary glTF file with its textures at 1,024 pixels; the maker's mark on its cover painted out; shown open.
The broom in the far corner (the place only): Plastic Broom, L (Poly Haven).CC0 1.0. Changed here: packed into one binary glTF file with its textures at 1,024 pixels; the maker's name on its handle painted out.
The flags: Executive Order 10834, on the flag of the United States, drawn in code for this scene, after the order (National Archives).the flag's design and the order are public; not subject to copyright. Changed here: a three by five foot indoor flag, its union seven thirteenths of the hoist and two fifths of the fly as the order sets out, fifty stars in nine rows, in the flag's own red, white and blue, with a gold fringe as indoor flags have.
