Take a break

New Hampshire, in plain words.

A state legislature writes much of the law closest to daily life: schools, roads, taxes, health care. Most of what reaches you about it arrives filtered — as a press release, a mailer, a headline.

This place skips the filter. Who represents you, what they work on, straight from public records — so you can decide for yourself what you think.

No ads. No donors. No take to sell you.

Who represents you?

Everyone in New Hampshire has one state senator and between one and ten representatives, depending on the district. Find yours with your location, or pick your district if you know it. Your location is worked out on your device and never leaves it.

The two chambers

Every seat in the Senate and House, one square each, colored by the party of the member who holds it. Tap a square for the member.

Fact Seats and parties from the roster kept by the Open States project, which follows the legislature's own member pages. Parties are named the way New Hampshire names them. New Hampshire's House districts are named by county and number and elect from one to eleven representatives each; its floterial districts, each laid over several neighbouring districts and electing representatives of their own, have no lines in the Census Bureau's file, so they are listed in the roster but not drawn on the map.

What is here, and what is coming

The state side of The Civic Archive is being built in the open, New Hampshire first. It will carry the same record as the federal side.

Who funds each campaign

Every state keeps its own campaign-finance records, in its own form, so money is added one state at a time. When New Hampshire's is in, it follows the same rule as everywhere here: organizations are named, people are only ever totals, and outside spending is kept apart. See how it looks for Minnesota
